Maintaining Ceramic Tile
Floors
Cleaning: While virtually stain-free, ceramic tile can be glazed
and shiny or unglazed and matte, which is very porous. For this
reason you need to be cautious about cleaners. Never use abrasive
cleaners on glazed ceramic tile and never use abrasives, acids
or harsh soap on unglazed tile. Ideally, steam mop ceramic tile
then buff it with a dry mop to make the floor shine.
The weakest
link in ceramic floors is the grout between tiles. Avoid acidic
cleaners as they eat away at the grout. Seal grout,
as unsealed grout will absorb dirt, grease and grime.
Maintenance: Follow these tips to keep your ceramic
floors in top shape.
- Vacuum,
dust mop or sweep regularly to minimize the chance of scratching.
Microfibre dry mops are good for capturing
small particles.
- Keep area rugs at entryways to catch large
dirt particles. Shake out entry rugs frequently.
- Wipe
up spills immediately as they may stain the grout.
- Inspect,
repair and reseal grout every two years or as needed.
