Maintaining Vinyl
Floors
Cleaning: Vinyl flooring is very durable and will last
many years if maintained properly. Regularly vacuum or sweep
the floor,
then use a steam mop to get up residual dirt. When cleaning up
spills, avoid abrasive pads or scrubbers as they can scratch
the vinyl. If a seam opens up or if you get a cut in the floor,
immediately cover the area and have a professional repair
it. Repairs should be fairly straightforward unless dirt
or
grime
gets into
the area.
Maintenance: Follow these tips to maintain your vinyl
floors.
- Vacuum,
dust mop or sweep regularly to minimize the chance of scratching.
Microfibre dry mops are good for capturing small
particles.
- Keep area rugs at entryways to catch large dirt particles.
Shake out entry rugs frequently.
- Avoid
rubber-backed mats or rugs as they can discolor the vinyl.
Use mats or rugs made specifically for vinyl floors.
- Wipe up spills
immediately as they may stain.
- Protect
the bottoms of furniture and appliances to keep from scratching.
- Lift, don’t slide furniture and appliances
across the floor or you may scratch the vinyl.
